After a busy Spring with orders, I’ve had a little bit of downtime the past few weeks. During a lull from orders, I like to challenge myself to come up with new ideas and designs for cakes and cookies. It’s a little easier to do so with cookies, since I usually bake a few extras I can use later to practice.

One design challenge I’ve worked on this month was through a Facebook cookie group I’m part of. We were challenged to create and share a cookie inspired by a non-baking-related hobby. Baking is my favorite hobby, but after that, my next favorite hobby is crocheting!

I picked up the hobby a couple of years ago by doing a Woobles amigurumi kit. I love penguins, so I bought the Pierre the Penguin kit and was hooked! Since then, I’ve made so many crochet amigurumi projects. It’s a nice stress reliever and a fun way to unwind!

Trying to create a crochet-themed cookie was a little tricky. I’ve done a crochet-themed cake before, but figuring out how to translate crochet to a cookie was a little trickier!

I decided to focus on the yarn and crochet hook. My favorite design was the yarn ball! I used a #2 tip to create the yarn lines. I also created one with v-shaped stitches.

These cookies were so fun to make, and I couldn’t stop there… Stay tuned for another crochet-inspired cookie post coming next week!
