Last week I was part of a cookie group challenge to create a cookie representing my favorite non-baking hobby. I chose to do a cookie based on my other favorite hobby of a few years – crocheting!
For years, I had tried on and off to learn crochet. I worked a highly technical job and loved finding new creative outlets. But something just never clicked for me, and I kept giving up. Then, on a whim, I bought an amigurumi crochet kit from Woobles. I couldn’t pass it up; it was an adorable penguin – my favorite animal! I was skeptical but tried it and loved it!
After that first kit, I was hooked! I got more kits for my birthday that year, bought the Woobles book, and just couldn’t stop creating! I made ones for myself, gifts for friends, and even some for my classroom.
My love of Woobles grew even more with adorable collaboration kits. I got both the Barbie set and the Harry Potter kit – there were surprises and such precious details. I also bought other single kit collabs like an adorable and nostalgic Care Bear kit and kits from my favorite musical, Wicked! I also have a long list of wish list kits I still want to tackle someday, along with mystery kits to collect.
Then a year ago, my family and I took a little road trip to Cincinnati, OH, so I could attend one of the Woobles Wagon stops! It was so much fun. I arrived hours before and crocheted while getting to know the people next to me in line. It even rained a little, but that didn’t stop us! We got a Woobles Wagon kit, played games (like Woobles plinko), and took pictures with the wagon and Pierre. I sadly am unable to visit any of the stops this summer, but I definitely want to attend again in the future!
Just when I thought my Woobles love couldn’t get any “sweeter”, I decided to make a Woobles cookie when I was doing my crochet cookies. I’ve made a crochet cake before, but a crochet cookie was a bit more of a challenge. I wanted to get the look of the v-shaped stitches. It took a few attempts, and I still like the smooth version of the cookie better. But I thought it still turned out so cute!
I also made one with the Woobles logo and one with little royal icing transfers to represent some of my favorite Woobles kits. They aren’t perfect; I scratched a little too much on the Woobles logo cookie trying to get things aligned. But I’m still “hooked” on them…and hooked on Woobles!
