I recently made cookies for a friend’s daughter. It was her 10th birthday and she wanted popsicle-themed popsicles in summery colors. I love how vibrant the colors came out with this set!
I started by covering the popsicle portion of the cookie with a base layer. I covered about half of the cookies with bright pink, orange, light blue, dark blue or green. I thought I’d add icing for the stick of the popsicle, but actually liked it bare. It was a perfect color!
Once the base layer dried, I added details to make the popsicles cuter. The first design was a drippy layer in a contrasting color. I used orange with the pink, but my favorite were the light blue and green. I think the drippy details in more of a contrasting color created such a sweet detail!
I was going to leave the other half of the single color popsicles as is, but I decided to add a curved line in the corner. This was to create a shine line to add a little dimension and detail.
The other half of the popsicles were tricolored. To make a smooth appearance, I piped each color on without letting it dry in-between. Usually when I’m piping sections next to each other in different colors, I will let a section dry before moving to the next spot. But I wanted one continuous look to it so I didn’t let it dry before moving to the next part. For these, I used a straight line between sections. I cleaned it up by using a cookie scribe to straighten and cleanup the sections.
I thought another sweet detail would be to have some with squiggly lines between the sections. This was again done whiel all three colors were still wet instead of letting adjacent sections dry. I piped a wavy line border for each section and again used a cookie scribe to clean up the sections.
The birthday girl enjoyed the cookies, which is always my ultimate goal! I made a set for her family and a set for her class for a birthday snack. The birthday girl is actually in my son’s class. My son was so excited to tell his classmates they were from my bakery. Which was so sweet!
