These cookies for a friend’s son’s birthday were so fun to make! I experimented with the fire design from my camping-themed cookies. I swirled a chunk of yellow icing, surrounded by orange and red.
Some of the cookies had many layers of icing (like the truck). But I also used my edible markers to create a lot of the details – lines on the hat, details on the hydrant, buttons on the coat, and most of the details on the Fire Dept logo.
Another thing I tried with this cookie was creating custom shapes without a cookie cutter. I printed out the shape I wanted for the firetruck and hat. I cut it out and then traced the shape onto the rolled cookie dough. I used a sharp knife to ensure a clean cut. I also froze the cut cookies for a bit before baking to ensure they kept their shape.
