It’s back-to-school time here where I live. I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that my baby is a big kindergartener this year! He’s been my little buddy at the preschool I teach at, so this is a big change for us all. There’s been lots of nerves and big feelings, but I know it will get better.
Speaking of back to school, this week I made another batch of the campfire cookies I’d made previously. This batch was for staff at a school having a camping theme for their school year.
In addition to the cookies I made before, I also made some that were specific to the school.
These were so fun to make and survived being shipped! I’m always so nervous shipping my cookies. I use a lot of bubble wrap, packing them up tightly so they can’t move around and are all secure.
One of the cookies has a campfire; I used a wet-on-wet technique to create the flames. I also used this technique for some flames with my firefighter cookie set.
I created three colors (yellow, orange, red) of medium-consistency icing. Medium-consistency icing should blend in with the icing around it in 20 seconds when you drizzle it in.
I started by piping a tall teardrop shape of yellow icing above the logs for the campfire. It doesn’t need to be exact or a perfect shape, as you will be blending it in with icing around it.
I used that same consistency of icing in orange to create a layer around the yellow. Again, it doesn’t need to be exact. It needs to be roughly the same consistency as the yellow icing.
I piped the last medium-consistency icing in red around the orange.
I took a cookie scribe and scraped through each layer of the fire, starting with the yellow. The red can easily dominate the other colors, so I wanted to alwasy start with the lightest yellow color and move outward. Each time I wiped off the scribe as I didn’t want the red to get in the middle.
