Where did the summer go? I cannot believe we are quickly approaching back-to-school. My sons start in two weeks. My youngest is starting kindergarten, so it’s going to be a big school year for our family!! My preschool starts a bit later, but we start our teacher workdays soon.
We stayed busy this summer with bakery projects, swim lessons for my boys, chess and basketball camps for my oldest, lots of time at our local trampoline park and science museum, and almost weekly bowling (thanks Kids Bowl Free!). Even with all that extra bowling, I’m still terrible… ha!
But the highlight of my summer was definitely my 40th birthday trip to New York City! I hadn’t been in over a decade, but it’s one of my favorite places. We ate amazing food and saw two shows that have been on my wishlist for a while (Chess the Musical and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). I also had to find a few Swifties spots around Greenwich Village, including the Electric Lady Studios and Cornelia Street. (Swifties – check out my new series!)
We are squeezing in a few more fun things, but we are definitely feeling the summer slowdown!
While it’s still a couple of weeks off, I am going ahead and sharing my Back-to-School cookie set. I’m so excited ot make these soon for my sons, their teachers, and customers! (Bloomington, IN and surrounding area friends – I’m selling these here!) Each set comes with a mini pencil cookie and a mini notepad paper cookie. I thought they turned out super cute!
Here are some past back-to-school treats I’ve made for my boys and their teachers:
My oldest kicked off his first day of kindergarten with this pencil treat for breakfast. The pencil is made of waffle and toast. It also contains mini chocolate chip “lead” and a strawberry “eraser”.
My youngest started preschool (and I started teaching) the following year, and I made these apple cookies to celebrate our new adventures.
The following year I was experimenting more with cookies and tried out these designs. The school bus was created using a stencil and “paint”. The cutter, stencil, and edible watercolor “paint” came from a Flour Box Club subscription box I was doing at the time. I loved how these turned out!
Last year, I made a box of cookies for teacher friends, my boys, and their teachers.
This last one wasn’t technically for back-to-school season, but was a school-themed cake I made for an auction at a local school fundraiser event.
